DR. MICHAEL PASHLEY NAMED TO BOARD OF HUDSON VALLEY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORP.

Dr. Michael Pashley

Philips Research North America also becomes founding member of NY BioHud Valley

NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. (Feb. 9, 2012) – A leading physics researcher and a Senior Director of Philips Research North America has joined the board of the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corp. (HVEDC).

Dr. Michael Pashley, who also serves as the Research Department Head of the Ultrasound, Photonics and Bioinformatics Department, currently has active collaborations with a number of academic institutions and receives research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the U.S military’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

In addition, Philips Research has also become a founding member of NY BioHud Valley, an organization of the HVEDC that brings together the biotech/pharmaceutical companies in the region.

“By participating in the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation, Philips Research intends to become a more active participant among those companies and institutes in the Hudson Valley region,” said Dr. Pashley. “We have a strong research program in healthcare and lighting, and have opportunities to share knowledge in these fields as well as create solutions together. We look forward to being part of the HVEDC to help promote innovation in the region.”

The NY BioHud Valley partners with county, state and federal governments to help create an environment that allows biotech/pharmaceutical companies to expand, while also attracting new businesses into the region by showcasing the existing infrastructure, highly educated workforce, proximity to world-class research, ready access to venture capital and competitive real estate opportunities. In addition, NY BioHud Valley engages in a pro-business advocacy campaign designed to reduce legislative burdens and foster collaboration between companies and educational institutions.

“Philips is on the forefront of converging technologies, bringing together healthcare, information technology and informatics, and devices and diagnostic systems,” said Nathan Tinker, Executive Director of New York Biotechnology Association. “As such, the company perfectly represents the mission of the NY BioHud Valley initiative – to make the region a global leader in the bioscience industry. We at NYBA congratulate Philips and NY BioHud Valley on their new relationship and look forward with excitement to the great things to come from it.”

The HVEDC works to develop economic growth throughout the Hudson Valley, which includes the counties of Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Rockland, Orange, Ulster and Sullivan.

“We are very excited to welcome Dr. Pashley to the board of the HVEDC, and Philips Research North America as a founding member of NY BioHud Valley,” said Mike Oates, CEO and President of the HVEDC. “Dr. Pashley has a great deal of experience as both a researcher and a management professional, and his breadth of experience is sure to help organizations across the region find success.”

Prior to his management role with Philips Research, Dr. Pashley was an active researcher at the company in surface physics, short wavelength lasers and solid-state lighting. He has been published in over 40 scientific journals and received his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
