Monticello, N.Y. (Aug. 22, 2012) – The Ethelbert B. Crawford Library Board of Trustees released a statement today thanking the community for its support of the public referendum to build a new public library in downtown Monticello. The referendum for a $5.3 million bond passed by a 504-155 vote on Aug. 9.
“On behalf of the entire Board of Trustees, I’d like to thank everyone in the community for its overwhelming support for this project,” said Robert Norris, the president of the Board of Trustees. “The new Crawford Library will be an extraordinary asset to the community and contribute to the ongoing revitalization of downtown Monticello.”
The new library, which will open in early 2014, will be located at 479 Broadway in the former Cohen’s Bakery site. The 10,800 square-foot building will double the library’s space for a collection of more than 30,000 books, 5,000 media items and 900 periodicals. The facility will also feature a large parking lot, more meeting spaces and computer stations as well as handicap accessibility throughout. The library is expected to open in early 2014.
The Board of Trustees also placed a message on the project web site – www.NewCrawfordLibrary.com – that expresses their appreciation for the approval.
