Studies show propane is more cost-efficient and clean-burning than gasoline
May 29, 2012 – Hudson Valley/Catskills, N.Y. – Combined Energy Services (CES), a locally owned propane & fuel oil company serving the Hudson Valley and Catskills, and Healey Brothers, the Hudson Valley’s #1 automotive brand, are helping businesses drive clean and save green with automotive propane gas services.
Healey Brothers will provide complete propane autogas conversions for vehicles through its service department at its Route 17M Goshen location, and CES will provide installation of on-site propane gas refill stations and offer delivery from various sites. Ongoing technical support and training will also be available.
“CES is excited to partner with Healey Brothers for this exciting venture,” said Mike Taylor, co-owner at Combined Energy Services. “It’s proven that propane is cleaner and cheaper than traditional fuels. It’s also 90 percent made in America, which means more American jobs and less U.S. dependency on foreign oil. Everybody wins.”
John Koerner, general manager at Healey Brothers added, “Healey Brothers is proud to be part of this dynamic alternative energy movement happening here in the Hudson Valley. This company has a longstanding dedication to alternative energy. As a matter of fact, we recently installed solar panels on the roof of Healey Chevrolet in Poughkeepsie in an ongoing effort to go green. Businesses will no doubt enhance their bottom line with alternative fuels like propane autogas, but they’ll also contribute to a stronger economy and healthier environment.”
According to the National Propane Gas Association, propane is cleaner than gasoline and diesel with respect to most major pollutants, including carbon monoxide, and provides from 18 to 20 percent reduction in total carbon dioxide emissions relative to gasoline. New technology allows these vehicles to run seamlessly on either gasoline or propane, extending the trip range while also emitting less greenhouse gases, cutting maintenance costs and saving over 35 percent on fuel costs over gasoline. Municipal, state and federal tax credits are also available.
CES is so dedicated to the technology that it has converted eight of its own trucks and expects to save $2,000 per vehicle annually on fuel costs alone by running on clean, affordable propane autogas.
Autogas is propane (C3H8), or liquid petroleum gas, when used as a vehicle fuel. With more than 15 million vehicles worldwide running on autogas, it is the most widely used alternative fuel in the world, just behind gasoline and diesel. The conversions utilize bi-fuel systems, which automatically switches to gasoline if a fueling station cannot be reached when the autogas tank is running low.
“These conversions are popular nationwide with emergency service departments, personal transport companies, utilities and school bus companies,” said Taylor. Koerner added, “Our goal is to help businesses around the Hudson Valley and Catskills convert to clean, efficient propane autogas and improve their bottom line.”
Family owned and operated since 1968, Combined Energy Services is one of the largest propane gas and fuel oil suppliers in the Hudson Valley. With two offices in operation, CES has provided customers throughout the Catskills, Hudson Valley, Eastern Pennsylvania and Northern New Jersey with dependable propane gas, fuel oil and kerosene deliveries, as well as unmatched, around-the-clock repair service.
