April 30, 2013 – Harris, N.Y. – On April 23, Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC) received a check for more than $3,000 raised at the Sullivan County BCANY vs. Cancer Classic, held on February 16 at Monticello High School and February 17 at Sullivan County Community College to raise funds for CRMC’s Oncology Department.
The fifth annual fundraiser, held in conjunction with the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY), experienced weather issues and location changes and still managed to raise more than $3,000. The fundraiser originated as a single “Pink Out” game and has grown to a full weekend of games. This year’s participants included Monticello, Eldred, Tri-Valley, Liberty, Fallsburg, Roscoe and Sullivan West High School girls and boys basketball teams and SUNY Sullivan’s men’s and women’s teams.
On April 23, a group of eight students and four coaches/faculty members presented the check to Fred Kuriger, CRMC’s CEO, and Glorianne Ellison, Oncology Department nurse. The group then took a tour of the Oncology Unit at CRMC.
“It is a great opportunity for all of us to help others in the community, to be part of something bigger than our basketball programs and to support our hospital,” said Christopher Russo, Monticello High School Boys Basketball Coach. “We are proud of the fundraiser and we hope to continue it for a long time.”
Cancer Care at CRMC includes a well-developed oncology program that offers a multidisciplinary team approach combined with quality care.
