September 9, 2013 – Harris, N.Y. – A free support group for individuals with hearing loss will be held on Wednesday, September 18 from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Catskill Regional Medical Center located at 68 Harris Bushville Road in Harris, NY. The meeting will be held in Boardroom A and B on the second floor of the Ambulatory Services Building. The Hearing Loss Support Group is facilitated by Dr. Deborah Lynn, a local audiologist and is supported by the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA). Dr. Lynn will also be making a special presentation entitled “Hearing Loss and Diabetes.”
The support group provides individuals with the latest information about the impact of hearing loss and the technology options available as well as offers advice, encouragement and education. Additionally, it provides a unique forum for individuals to discuss strategies to manage hearing loss.
According to the National Center for Health Statistics, 36 million Americans have some degree of hearing loss, making it the largest public health issue after heart disease and arthritis.

HLAA provides assistance and resources for people with hearing loss and their families to learn how to adjust to living with hearing loss. HLAA is working to eradicate the stigma associated with hearing loss and raise public awareness about the need for prevention and the importance of regular hearing screenings throughout life.
