Oct 1, 2012 – Harris, N.Y. – The Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC) Blood Bank has been awarded accreditation by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), based on a recent survey.
Accreditation follows an intensive on-site assessment by specially trained AABB evaluators and establishes that the level of technical and administrative performance within the facility meets or exceeds the standards set by AABB. By successfully meeting those requirements, CRMC joins similar facilities located throughout the country and around the world that have also earned AABB accreditation. AABB’s accreditation program contributes to the quality and safety of collecting, processing, testing, distributing and administering blood and cellular therapy products.
CRMC’s Blood Bank sponsors monthly blood drives at the hospital in conjunction with the American Red Cross, and celebrated its seven-year anniversary of hosting blood drives in May. In 2011, the CRMC blood drives registered 306 individuals, collected 257 units of blood (translating to 770 lives saved) and reported a 12 percent increase (36) in first-time donors. Additionally, CRMC’s Blood Bank offers blood typing, antibody screening, crossmatch, titer and prenatal services.
