Jan. 4, 2013 – Harris, N.Y. – Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Gerard Galarneau as its new Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Galarneau will have direct responsibility for the Hospitalist Program, Case Management and Medical Staff office at CRMC, and will serve as the liaison to all medical staff and community physicians. Dr. Peter Panzarino is retiring from the role to focus on his private practice, but will maintain his privileges at CRMC.
“Dr. Panzarino has served admirably in his role for the last six years, and has been invaluable to me in my first year here at CRMC,” said CRMC CEO Fred Kuriger. “He is well-liked and respected, and will be missed. At the same time, we are very excited to have Dr. Galarneau join the CRMC family. His proven success as a health care administrator and his strong leadership qualities are valuable assets to have at CRMC. We look forward to having him on our Senior Leadership team.”
Prior to his appointment at CRMC, Dr. Galarneau, a Board-certified Urologist, was an active Orange Regional Medical Center staff member since March of 2000, and served in leadership positions at the hospital since 2002. He was the Vice-Chair of the Department of Urology from 2002- 2004 and Chairman from 2005-2006. Dr. Galarneau was the Chairman of Staff from 2007-2008 and has held the position of Chief of Staff since January of 2009.
Dr. Galarneau graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from SUNY Binghamton, received his medical degree from New York Medical College and held residencies in General Surgery and Urology at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York.
