CATSKILL FARMS FEATURED ON “SELLING NEW YORK”

HGTV’s hit show will showcase homes from local builder

March 26, 2012 (Eldred, N.Y.) – HGTV’s hottest program is about to let the world in on New York’s best kept secret — that Sullivan County is the ideal home-away-from home for young professionals looking to get away from it all. Selling New York, the network’s top rated program, will feature three homes built by local developer Catskill Farms this spring.

The program, which debuted in 2010, features three of New York City’s top real estate companies selling properties to New York’s elite. Now in its fourth season with three million viewers, Selling New York recently taped an upcoming episode featuring Catskill Farms homes in the Narrowsburg area, a first for the series which usually focuses on luxury properties within New York City.

“We’re thrilled that through our exposure on this program, millions will be exposed to the charm of life in Sullivan County and the Catskills region. It will not only showcase three of our farmhouses and cottages, but portray the small town life and natural beauty inherent in Sullivan and Ulster Counties. I’m sure many will be compelled to visit and even consider investing in their own getaway.”

Catskill Farms was founded by Charles Petersheim in 2002 after finding refuge in Sullivan County post-9/11, so he understands the allure of a simpler life in the country. He turned the charm of country living in a classic farmhouse on a big, beautiful piece of land into a model for the region’s most successful homebuilder. When most in the industry struggled to survive Catskill Farms more than doubled in size, completing and selling 14 homes in 2011 up from seven in 2006, with 16 more on the books for this year.

That translates to about 100 affluent second homeowners patronizing local businesses and paying taxes, plus an overall investment of more than $32 million by Catskill Farms with monthly expenditures of approximately $400,000 in the local economy. They’ve also created 14 local jobs in one of the hardest hit regions of the state.

Catskill Farms is an important local success story and an example of how small business is fueling the economic recovery. During the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, this small homebuilder grew into a vertically-integrated development, design, construction and real estate company and expanded into Ulster County. They have won multiple awards and been recognized by the national press including USA Today, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Builder Magazine and the New York Daily News among many others. But their mission remains the same: to build small, well-designed, high-quality farmhouses and cottages for those seeking a simpler way of life.
