Area college students to showcase big ideas, compete for free co-working space
ALBANY, N.Y. (August 29, 2019) – CapCity CoWorks, downtown Albany’s newest coworking space, has announced an exciting new social media contest, “The Big Idea,” aimed at helping Capital Region college students get their big ideas up and running. The month-long contest kicks off during the first week of September, and one entrant will be chosen to receive free use of a CapCity CoWorks workspace for six months.
“Living in the Capital Region, we are constantly reminded that we are a community filled with many wonderful colleges including UAlbany and many others,” said Melissa Martino, Building Administrator for Albany Pearl Street Heights Associates, owners of the 11 North Pearl Street location. “It is here where we have some of the brightest minds with the biggest ideas. We have no doubt that throughout our competition, we are going to see some pretty big ideas and I look forward to seeing what the Capital Region students come up with.”
To enter, participants must submit a 60-second video pitch, outlining their entrepreneurial idea. Pitches should include why and how their project could benefit from using the co-working space. Entrants must share their videos on their social media channels, tagging CapCity CoWorks. To be eligible, participants must be attending college within a 20-mile radius of CapCity CoWorks, which is located on North Pearl Street, and use the hashtag #CapCityBigIdea.
“At CapCity, we have adaptable spaces that are perfect for the creative energy and collaborative needs of today’s young entrepreneurs,” said Martino. “We’d be proud not only to accommodate them, but also to play a role in retaining them as part of a dynamic workforce for the Capital Region.”
The contest will kick off on Thursday, September 5 and continue through Thursday, October 3. After a week-long judging process by our panel, a winner will be announced on Thursday, October 10. The winning entrepreneur will receive use of a single-desk office at CapCity CoWorks, free for six months. This includes all amenities provided by CapCity CoWorks.
