Focus Media CEO locates, purchases and donates scarce masks
for Mobile Life Support Services; encourages others to also help
GOSHEN, N.Y. (March 25, 2020) – Josh Sommers, President and CEO of Focus Media Inc., a prominent Hudson Valley and New York public relations and marketing firm, has donated 800 urgently needed surgical masks to Mobile Life Support Services, the Hudson Valley’s largest emergency medical provider. Sommers hopes his action will inspire other companies that may have supplies to think of first responders and healthcare workers and try to assist.
Surgical masks are an example of personal protection equipment (PPE) that is in high demand and short supply during the coronavirus crisis. These supplies – which also include N-95 masks, eye protection, splash guards, gloves, gowns, decontamination supplies and more – are critical safety tools for emergency service technicians (EMTs), paramedics and others.
“These dedicated first responders are on the front lines,” Sommers said. “As the son of a former EMT, I am proud to provide a modest donation to men and women who – with honor, courage and sacrifice – serve local residents around the clock when they need it most. Most of all, I hope this action starts a chain reaction of others who may be in commercial industries, research and development and other related fields to donate essential equipment to emergency-response teams and hospitals.”
“We’re so thankful for these surgical masks, which will help protect our staff and our patients,” said Mobile Life President and CEO Scott Woebse. “With the national shortage of protective equipment, these will be a huge help to our staff as they provide emergency medical care to those in need throughout the Hudson Valley. This is just one example of the many ways each and every one of us can come together as a community and make a difference in mitigating the spread of this virus throughout these unprecedented times.”
Sommers personally purchased the in-demand and hard-to-find masks from a client in the research and development industry. “Our client generously made these masks available at such a crucial time, when many first responders and medical providers, because of supply shortages, have been forced to use makeshift, less-safe masks created from bandanas, apparel and other materials.”
Sommers’ generosity was a response to Mobile Life’s appeal last week for donated and available-for-purchase PPE. The urgent need for PPE is immediate and ongoing – and additional donations and opportunities to purchase new, unused PPE in original packaging are sought.
