Outgoing Club President is installed as Lieutenant Governor for Orange and Sullivan counties
GOSHEN, N.Y. (April 1, 2019) – Just two years ago, Burke Catholic High School didn’t even have a Key Club. Now, the young club is fifty plus members strong and thriving. 6 of its officers took part in the Kiwanis International New York District Leadership Training Conference (LTC) in Albany over the weekend; and its outgoing club president was installed as Lt. Governor of District 13 which is comprised of 9 schools from Orange and Sullivan Counties.
Burke Catholic Junior Holden Lee was installed as Lieutenant Governor during the closing ceremonies Sunday. Lee was among the founding members of the club and served as editor his sophomore year before being elected club president. He took the reins from outgoing Lieutenant Governor and Newburgh Free Academy Senior Deeya Modhwadiya.
“It’s amazing how far the Burke Catholic Key Club has come,” said Lee. “When we established our charter, the existing Key Clubs in the region were there to support us. In my new leadership role, I will be able to give back by representing all the local clubs at the state level.”
The District Leadership Training Conference featured workshops to give attendees the skills needed to run successful service events. Keynote speakers inspired students to push themselves out of their comfort zones.
“Key Club is about service to others – in our community and the world,” said Burke Catholic Key Club Advisor Jo Ellen Nemeth. “The LTC teaches leadership tools that our officers can use to accomplish club goals and Key Club International initiatives.”
Burke Catholic Junior Elizabeth Magnussen has been elected the new Key Club President. The club receives support and guidance from the Middletown Kiwanis Club.
