Four new members are inducted into Burke Catholic Hall of Fame
Goshen, N.Y. (May 13, 2019) – Supporters, well-wishers and members of the Burke Catholic family gathered earlier this month for the John S. Burke Catholic High School Spring Gala and to celebrate four remarkable individuals who were inducted into its Hall of Fame. The inductees were:
-Chris Ashman, Class of 1967
-Kevin Callahan, Class of 1980
-John Douthit, Class of 1986 and Burke Catholic Principal-Operations, and
-Melissa Ross, Burke Catholic English teacher.
The Spring Gala is Burke Catholic’s primary fundraiser to benefit capital projects at the high school. It was a time to celebrate the completion of the ‘On Track for 2018’ capital campaign, which raised $200,000 to renovate the Burke Catholic track. It also commemorated the launch of the science labs renovation campaign, an effort to fund the upgrade of the four science labs in the high school.
“It’s because of your support of Burke Catholic High School that our students can compete on a brand new track,” Douthit told the crowd at Villa Venezia in Middletown. “The track is a step forward in our ongoing commitment to campus improvement and we’re confident that, with your support, our science labs renovation campaign will be just as successful.”
As part of the evening’s celebration, Burke Catholic and Incoming Board of Trustees Chairman Ron Boire gave special recognition to outgoing Board of Trustees Chairman Pat Welsh (Class of 1967) by awarding him the title of Chairman Emeritus for his decades of service to the school.
“All of those honored tonight personify the school’s motto, ‘Not Words but Deeds’ and are individuals who our students can look up to and be inspired by,” said Janice Clark, Principal-Academics. “All are examples of the Christian values and civic responsibility that Burke Catholic instills in its students.”
