High School is once again able to host home track meets for its athletes
Goshen, N.Y. (October 13, 2018) – During halftime of its Homecoming football game Saturday, Burke Catholic High School celebrated the completion of the ‘Burke Catholic on Track for 2018 Campaign’ to benefit its students and the BC community. The official unveiling of the newly completed track recognized donors for their generosity and marked a new beginning for the track and field program.
“This ambitious campaign to repair and upgrade the track was launched in 2017 and, thanks to the generosity of the entire BC family, who contributed a total of $200,000 to the project, the dream of a new track at the high school has come to fruition,” announced John Douthit, Principal of Operations.
Several major donors to the project were present including Maneesh Arora and Faith Ferguson. Ron Boire; the Carpentieri family; the Broadhead and O’Mara family; and General Martin and Deanie Dempsey were also instrumental in helping Burke Catholic reach its goal. Burke Catholic’s very first track and field athletes, John Doty and Chris Ashman from the Class of 1967, returned to their alma mater to celebrate the new track.
The upgrade includes the repair of the pole vault runway and high jump area and improvement of the track with new, technologically advanced, low maintenance material. The completion of the project means Burke Catholic is once again able to host home track meets for its athletes.
“We’ve been working for a long time to be able to share our track program with other schools in the county, and this really gives us a sense of identity as Burke Catholic Track and Field,” said Burke Catholic senior and Track and Field athlete Juliana Gesztesi. “That was the biggest dream to have this track and to run on it for the first and last time this year!”
The track renovation is part of a larger strategic plan to revitalize Burke Catholic’s campus. The focus of the recently launched 2019 campaign is to fund the renovation of the high school’s science labs.
