NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. (Feb. 4, 2016) – Brooklyn Brewery at The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) has joined the Hudson Valley Food & Beverage Alliance, a cluster initiative of the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corp. (HVEDC).
The Food & Beverage Alliance focuses on helping area food and beverage entrepreneurs work better together by providing networking opportunities, hosting educational forums, providing a regional advertising platform for marketing their products and promoting the region as a major craft beverage and specialty food producer to target audiences. The organization includes food businesses, farmers, vegetable growers, beverage makers, distributors and other industry-leading organizations and entities.
Brooklyn Brewery, one of the nation’s top craft brewers, is headquartered in Brooklyn, N.Y. Its seven barrel facility at the CIA includes three fermentation tanks and one finishing tank.
The brewery is currently accessible to CIA students and staff, and beer made at the brewery will be on tap at the CIA’s American Bounty Restaurant beginning next month. The CIA plans to serve the beers (including Mise en Place Wit, Cleaver IPA and a rotation of student beers) in all five of its restaurants on campus.
“Brooklyn Brewery is rooted in Brooklyn’s great brewing history, and we have become an important part of the exciting craft beer revolution that is changing the way Americans enjoy beer,” said Steve Hindy, cofounder and chairman of Brooklyn Brewery. “The Brooklyn Brewery at the CIA connects us to the nation’s premier culinary school and its incredibly innovative staff and students. We are looking forward to working with the CIA to develop new ways of enjoying beer with American cuisine and we are excited to tap into the creative entrepreneurs who are part of HVEDC’s Hudson Valley Food & Beverage Alliance.”
“Brooklyn Brewery is a pioneering force in the craft brewery business, bringing an important industry perspective to our Alliance which, in turn, offers unique learning opportunities to our membership,” said Laurence P. Gottlieb, HVEDC president and CEO. “Its satellite CIA brewery demonstrates a permanent commitment to the Hudson Valley and to future generations of brewers. Brooklyn Brewery is providing these students with additional tools for future success, and helping to create the next generation of craft beer entrepreneurs.”
Brooklyn Brewery at the CIA demonstrates the company’s interest in educating future business owners, industry leaders and culinary professionals. The Art & Science of Brewing elective provides bachelor’s students with the opportunity to learn about fermentation and brewing techniques, in addition to the business aspects of running a small food and beverage operation. Brooklyn Brewery’s Brewmaster Garrett Oliver and his team work closely with the CIA faculty developing curriculum and recipes.
Founded in 1988, The Brooklyn Brewery is one of the foremost craft breweries in the world, currently ranking #11 in volume among United States craft breweries. In pushing the boundaries of beer while keeping an eye on tradition, Brooklyn Brewery produces award-winning beers that are available in 26 states and more than 30 countries. The Brooklyn Brewery is located in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn and has been a proud supporter of the arts, music and community efforts since its inception. brooklynbrewery.com
