MONTICELLO, N.Y. (March 9, 2020) – Danielle Jose-Decker, running for Sullivan County Court Judge and Surrogate, has been endorsed by the Sullivan County Democratic Committee. She already has received endorsements from Sullivan County’s Republican Committee, Conservative Party and Independence Party – a rare show of support across every political aisle, reflecting broad-based consensus about her qualifications.
Jose-Decker is a long-time attorney with extensive Family, County and Supreme Court experience and is a partner at Ricciani & Jose, LLP, a leading Sullivan County law firm. She seeks her first term as Sullivan County Court Judge and Surrogate. No other candidate has announced a bid for the seat. Election Day is November 3, 2020.
“I am gratified by such support and trust from our community,” Jose-Decker said. “The people of Sullivan County want an impartial, respectful judge who is faithful to the law and justice. As I work toward this seat, I will strive toward fairness and equity for all who come before the court.”
Presently, the Sullivan County Court Judge also serves as Acting Family Court Judge. As a partner at Ricciani & Jose, LLP, Jose-Decker has represented hundreds of Sullivan County families. The firm serves clients in matrimonial and family law, criminal defense, civil litigation and real-estate transactions, and represents the municipalities of Bethel, Lumberland, Forestburgh, Wurtsboro, Fallsburg and Tusten.
As a past Sullivan County assistant district attorney, Jose-Decker investigated and prosecuted felony child sex-abuse cases as part of the county-wide Family Violence Response Team. She has also tried misdemeanor and felony criminal cases to successful verdicts as both a prosecutor and defense lawyer.
Sullivan County Democratic Committee Chairman Steven Vegliante said, “Danielle Jose-Decker’s extensive experience and unblemished reputation for fairness make her a phenomenal choice for judge, regardless of party. As we see the dysfunction playing out on national stages, I am proud of our Committee for showing that, on a local basis, we can find consensus when it benefits the public.”
Sullivan County Republican Committee Chairman Gary Maas praised Jose-Decker’s commitment to justice and integrity. “Residents of our county are fortunate to have a candidate for County Court Judge and Surrogate as qualified as Danielle Jose-Decker,” he said. “The scope of her legal career and service to Sullivan County will ensure fairness and justice for all.”
Jose-Decker is serving her second term as Sullivan County Bar Association president. As a SUNY Sullivan adjunct professor, she taught Business Law I and II. She has served on the Town of Thompson Republican Committee and is the Monticello Rotary Club’s past president. Jose-Decker was honored with Hudson Valley Legal Services’ Partners in Justice Award for providing pro bono legal services for domestic-violence victims.
Jose-Decker and her husband, Clarence “Brud” Decker, live in the Town of Thompson.
