The Shawangunk Wine Trail’s annual Pasta Primo Vino self-guided tour includes stops at all 11 family owned wineries on Saturday April 16 and Sunday April 17 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

KINGSTON, N.Y. (April 8, 2011) – The Shawangunk Wine Trail’s annual Pasta Primo Vino tour has been an annual rite of spring for 17 years with each winery sampling different wines and pasta dishes. This self-guided tour stops at all 11 family owned wineries from New Paltz in Ulster County to Warwick in Orange County.

Wine is the perfect complement to many pasta dishes and this tour will offer a variety of pairings to please any palate. Some wineries will unveil new releases to taste and others will present house favorites and the pasta dishes are equally varied and delicious:

  • Adair Vineyards: Southwestern pasta bean salad
  • Applewood Winery: Spring pasta salad with fresh vegetables and lemon vinaigrette
  • Baldwin Vineyards: Baked rigatoni with ricotta and fresh basil
  • Benmarl Vineyards: Gnocchi in a sage butter sauce
  • Brimstone Hill Vineyards: French pasta provencal
  • Brotherhood Winery: Orzo with mushrooms
  • Glorie Farm Winery: Sassy peanut pasta
  • Palaia Vineyard: Pasta quattro formaggi with semolina bread
  • Stoutridge Vineyard – TBD
  • Warwick Valley Winery: Pasta and homemade sweet sausage with shaved fennel
  • Whitecliff Vineyards: Cacio e Pepe, a cheese and black pepper pasta

“This event always kicks off the spring season for the wineries in a big way,” said Richard J. Remsnyder, tourism director for Ulster County Tourism. “Whether you’re a wine connoisseur, a foodie, or looking for a fun way to spend the weekend in the country this event is a great way to experience the beauty and hospitality our region is famous for.”

Single day tickets for the event which will be held from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday April 16 and Sunday April 17, 2011 are available through http://www.shawangunkwinetrail.com/. Wine Taster tickets include a commemorative wine glass, wine tasting and pasta tastings at all 11 wineries for $23.76 or $30.00 (plus tax) at the door. A Two-Day Wine Taster ticket is also available for just $29.97. A Designated Driver ticket is also available which includes just the pasta tastings at each winery for $5.40. All prices include tax unless otherwise noted.

The Shawangunk Wine Trail is nestled between the famous Shawangunk Mountains and the majestic Hudson River, just 85 miles north of New York City. The 11 wineries on the trail, as well as dozens of “Associate Members” are dedicated to making each visit a memorable experience.
